Elba Environmental Policy:

In an effort to be environmentally aware, we observe the following:

• Many of our beverages are either Fair-trade or Rainforest Alliance certified products

• We serve marmalade and jam in ramekins to avoid waste incurred by individual portion control packaging

• To reduce "Food Miles" and to support local businesses, we purchase the great majority of our provisions from local producers in Cornwall

• Energy saving light bulbs have been now been replaced in over 85% of our light fittings.  Loft insulation has been fitted

• All glass, plastic, cans, paper & cardboard are recycled locally.  We would be grateful if you could leave your newspapers & glass waste next to the waste bin in your room to aid us with recycling.

• The central heating is usually turned off during the summer months; after breakfast in autumn and winter months until late afternoon and overnight unless the weather is especially cold.  Should you feel chilly during the day or evening, please let us know so we can adjust the heating.

• The hot water boiler is controlled by a timer. This operates first thing in the morning, late afternoon and again in the evening.

• Towels are changed on the third or fourth day of a guest’s stay if their stay is for one week unless they are soiled or otherwise requested by the guest.

• During particularly hot periods bedding is changed part way through the week.

• Linen and towels are dried outside whenever possible.
